Namco Taiko Blog 2 (25 July 2013) - Taiko no Tatsujin in Mario Kart Arcade GP DX

Today, the third Mario Kart arcade has been released in Japan. Thus, today's second blog post is just a reminder of the Taiko no Tatsujin elements in there!

While the game's official website is open, many of the links lead to nowhere right now. This blog post offers several images from the game. Of course, they're all about the Taiko influence inside!

Of course, the main addition to the game's roster is Don-chan, who will have his customized karts like everyone else! He is classified as a Light character (low max speed, but high acceleration and handling).

Some Taiko stages will be there as well, as part of the brand new Don-Chan Cup! The screenshot above is from the Bon Odori (Lantern Festival) Street (ぼんおどりストリート), while the one below is from the Omatsuri Circuit (おまつりサーキット). Each of these comes with Taiko music as well!

...to be fair though, these new circuits aren't technically "new" ones. According to the game's page on the Super Mario Wiki, these two circuits are just re-skinned courses from two of the previous games' oldest tracks. The Bon Odori Street is a re-skin of the Donkey Kong Jungle, while the Omatsuri Circuit is a Taiko-themed version of the Bananan ruins. Both tracks were part of the Donkey Kong Cup.

As said before, the game's Banapassport features will grant several unlocks to the players, like extra karts! Of course, Don-Chan has his own secret set of wheels, such as the Dondoko Drive (ドンドコドライブ) above.
