A new Taiko 3DS videogame is in the works!

Taiko Drum Master

A singular heads-up from chatbox user 'someone' made us discover something in the gaming world that will raise the hype of this small corner of the Internet once again.

Of course, we're talking about the announcement of a new Taiko console game!

This month's issue of Famitsu, one of Japan's most popular videogame magazines, has reported that a second 3DS Taiko game will be released this summer on June 26th, by the name of Taiko no Tatsujin: Don to Katsu no Jikuu dai Boken (太鼓の達人 どんとかつの時空大冒険, lit. 'Taiko no Tatsujin: Don and Katsu's Great Space-Time Adventure'). The news crossed several Japanese blogs before English website Gematsu took it up for the English-reading audience. At the time of writing this blog entry, news are pretty scarce as image dumps haven't been made yet (it is a leak after all), but we already know some of the surface facts about the game.

Like before on portable Taiko, this one will feature a 1-player RPG-styled mode -called the "Space-Time Great Adventure" (時空大冒険モード)- as well as the usual 4-player multiplayer feature with one game cartridge. The outfit system is also going to be changed to have multiple parts like on the latest arcade and Wii U. The Taiko Team stated that the game is currently 75% complete, but this won't stop everyone from having it featured in one of the next blog entries soon!

Some of the game's initial songlist already appeared inside the latest Famitsu, featuring several names such as Namco Originals Jikuu Chou Jikuu 1-KaTokyo Tokkyo Kyo Kyokakyoku Kyokucho!! and "a certain Vocaloid song that has been causing a storm lately", according to early leakers.

Last but not least, it's interesting to notice that Bandai Namco has already opened the game's official website, though by now it only acts as a test page for the real thing. Stay tuned, as we are waiting for scans from the magazine!
